First Charter of Human Rights

I am Kourosh (Cyrus), King of the world, great king, mighty king, king of Babylon, king of the land of Sumer and Akkad, king of the four quarters, son of Camboujiyah (Cambyases), great king, king of Anshân, grandson of Kourosh (Cyrus), great king, king of Anshân, descendant of Chaish-Pesh (Teispes), great king, king of Anshân, progeny of an unending royal line, whose rule Bel and Nabu cherish, whose kingship they desire for their hearts, pleasure. When I well -disposed, entered Babylon, I set up a seat of domination in the royal palace amidst jubilation and rejoicing. Marduk the great god, caused the big-hearted inhabitations of Babylon to .................. me, I sought daily to worship him. At my deeds Marduk, the great lord, rejoiced and to me, Kourosh (Cyrus), the king who worshipped him, and to Kaboujiyah (Cambyases), my son, the offspring of (my) loins, and to all my troops he graciously gave his blessing, and in good sprit before him we glorified exceedingly his high divinity. All the kings who sat in throne rooms, throughout the four quarters, from the Upper to the Lower Sea, those who dwelt in ..................., all the kings of the West Country, who dwelt in tents, brought me their heavy tribute and kissed my feet in Babylon. From ... to the cities of Ashur, Susa, Agade and Eshnuna, the cities of Zamban, Meurnu, Der as far as the region of the land of Gutium, the holy cities beyond the Tigris whose sanctuaries had been in ruins over a long period, the gods whose abode is in the midst of them, I returned to their places and housed them in lasting abodes.

I gathered together all their inhabitations and restored (to them) their dwellings. The gods of Sumer and Akkad whom Nabounids had, to the anger of the lord of the gods, brought into Babylon. I, at the bidding of Marduk, the great lord, made to dwell in peace in their habitations, delightful abodes.

May all the gods whom I have placed within their sanctuaries address a daily prayer in my favour before Bel and Nabu, that my days may be long, and may they say to Marduk my lord, "May Kourosh (Cyrus) the King, who reveres thee, and Kaboujiyah (Cambyases) his son ..." Now that I put the crown of kingdom of Iran, Babylon, and the nations of the four directions on the head with the help of (Ahura) Mazda, I announce that I will respect the traditions, customs and religions of the nations of my empire and never let any of my governors and subordinates look down on or insult them until I am alive. From now on, till (Ahura) Mazda grants me the kingdom favor, I will impose my monarchy on no nation. Each is free to accept it , and if any one of them rejects it , I never resolve on war to reign. Until I am the king of Iran, Babylon, and the nations of the four directions, I never let anyone oppress any others, and if it occurs , I will take his or her right back and penalize the oppressor.

And until I am the monarch, I will never let anyone take possession of movable and landed properties of the others by force or without compensation. Until I am alive, I prevent unpaid, forced labor. To day, I announce that everyone is free to choose a religion. People are free to live in all regions and take up a job provided that they never violate other's rights.

No one could be penalized for his or her relatives' faults. I prevent slavery and my governors and subordinates are obliged to prohibit exchanging men and women as slaves within their own ruling domains. Such a traditions should be exterminated the world over.

I implore to (Ahura) Mazda to make me succeed in fulfilling my obligations to the nations of Iran (Persia), Babylon, and the ones of the four directions

منم کوروش، شاه جهان، شاه بزرگ، شاه دادگر، شاه بابل، شاه سومر و اکد، شاه چهار گوشه جهان.پسر کمبوجيه، شاه بزرگ، شاه انشان ،نوه کوروش، شاه بزرگ، ...، نبيره چيش پيش، شاه بزرگ ، شاه انشان ... از دودماني که هميشه شاه بوده اند و فراماروائي اش را « ِ‌بل »و « نبو » گرامي مي دارند و [از طيب خاطر، و]با دل خوش پادشاهي اوراخواهانند

آنگاه که بدون جنگ و پيکار وارد بابل شدم، همه مردم مقدم مرا با شادماني پذيرفتند. در بارگاه پادشاهان بابل بر تخت شهرياري نشستم . مردوک خداي بزرگ دل هاي مردم بابل را به سوي من گردانيد، ...، زيرا من او را ارجمند و گرامي داشتم . او بر من ، کوروش که ستايشگر او هستم و بر کمبوجيه پسرم ، و همچنين بر کَس و کار [و ، ايل و تبار]، و همه سپاهيان من ، برکت و مهرباني ارزاني داشت . ما همگي شادمانه و در صلح و آشتي مقام بلندش را ستوديم . به فرمان « مردوک » ، همه شاهان بر اورنگ پادشاهي نشسته اند . همه پادشاهان از درياي بالا تا درياي پائين [مديترانه تا خليج فارس ؟] ، همه مردم سرزمين هاي دوردست ، از چهارگوشه جهان ، همه پادشاهان « آموري » و همه چادرنشينان مرا خراج گذاردند و در بابل روي پاهايم افتادند [ پا هايم را بوسيدند] . از... ، تا آشور و شوش من شهرهاي « آگاده » ، اشنونا ، زمبان ، متورنو ، دير ، سرزمين گوتيان و همچنين شهرهاي آنسوي دجله که ويران شده بود ــ از نو ساختم .فرمان دادم تمام نيايشگاه هايي را که بسته شده بود، بگشايند. همه خدايان اين نيايشگاه ها را به جاهاي خود بازگرداندم . همه مردماني را که پراکنده و آواره شده بودند، به جايگاههاي خود برگرداندم و خانه هاي ويران آنان را آباد کردم . همچنين پيکره خدايان سومر و اکد را که « نبونيد » ، بدون هراس از خداي بزرگ به بابل آورده بود، به خشنودي مردوک «خداي بزرگ» و به شادي و خرمي به نيايشگاه هاي خودشان بازگرداندمباشد که دل ها شاد گردد. د

بشود که خداياني که آنان را به جايگاههاي نخستين شان بازگرداندم،... [ قبل از « بل » و « نبو »] هر روز در پيشگاه خداي بزرگ برايم خواستار زندگي بلند باشند ، چه بسا سخنان پُربرکت و نيکخواهانه برايم بيابند ، و به خداي من « مردوک » بگويند: کوروش شاه ،پادشاهي است که تو را گرامي مي دارد و پسرش کمبوجیه .ه

اينک که به ياري «مزدا» تاج سلطنت ايران و بابل و کشورهاي چهارگوشه جهان را به سرگذاشته ام اعلام مي کنم که تا روزي که زنده هستم و مزدا توفيق سلطنت را به من مي دهد دين و آئين و رسوم ملت هائي را که من پادشاه آنها هستم محترم خواهم شمرد و نخواهم گذاشت که حکام و زير دستان من دين و آئين و رسوم ملت هائي که من پادشاه آنها هستم يا ملت هاي ديگر را مورد تحقير قرار بدهند يا به آنها توهين نمايند.من از امروز که تاج سلطنت را به سر نهاده ام تا روزي که زنده هستم و مزدا توفيق سلطنت را به من مي دهد هرگز سلطنت خود را بر هيچ ملتي تحميل نخواهم کرد و هر ملتي آزاد است که مرا به سلطنت خود قبول کند يا نکند و هرگاه نخواهد مرا پادشاه خود بداند من براي سلطنت آن ملت مبادرت به جنگ نخواهم کرد. من تا روزي که پادشاه ايران هستم نخواهم گذاشت کسي به ديگري ظلم کند و اگر شخصي مظلوم واقع شد من حق وي را از ظالم خواهم گرفت و به او خواهم داد و ستمگر را مجازات خواهم کرد.من تا روزي که پادشاه هستم نخواهم گذاشت مال غير منقول يا منقول ديگري را به زور يا به طريق ديگر بدون پرداخت بهاي آن و جلب رضايت صاحب مال ، تصرف نمايد و من تا روزي که زنده هستم نخواهم گذاشت که شخصي ديگري را به بيگاري بگيرد و بدون پرداخت مزد وي را به کار وا دارد. د

من امروز اعلام مي کنم که هر کسي آزاد است که هر ديني را که ميل دارد بپرستد و در هر نقطه که ميل دارد سکونت کند مشروط بر اينکه در آنجا حق کسي را غصب ننمايد و هر شغلي را که ميل دارد پيش بگيرد و مال خود را به هر نحو که مايل است به مصرف برساند مشروط بر اينکه لطمه به حقوق ديگران نزند. هيچ کس را نبايد به مناسبت تقصيري که يکي از خويشاوندانش کرده مجازات کرد .من برده داري را برانداختم. به بدبختي هاي آنان پايان بخشيدم .من تا روزي که به ياري مزدا زنده هستم و سلطنت مي کنم نخواهم گذاشت که مردان و زنان را به عنوان غلام و کنيز بفروشند و حکام و زير دستان من مکلف هستند که در حوزه حکومت و ماموريت خود مانع از فروش و خريد مردان و زنان بعنوان غلام و کنيز بشوند و رسم بردگي بايد به کلي از جهان برافتد. د
از مزدا خواهانم که مرا در راه اجراي تعهّداتي که نسبت به ملت هاي ايران و بابل و ملل چهار جانب جهان بر عهده گرفته ام موفق گرداند

list what they thought were the present
“Seven wonders”

Though there were some disagreements,
the following received the most votes:
1. Egypt’s great pyramids
2. Taj Mahal
3. Grand Ganyon
4. Panama Canal
5. Empire State Building
6. St.Peter`s Basilica
7. Chine’s Great Wall

While gathering the votes,
the teacher noted that one student
had finished her paper yet.

So she asked the girl if
she was having trouble with her list.
The girl replied,
“Yes a little. I couldn’t quite make up my mind because there were so many”

The teacher said,
“Well tell us what you have and maybe can help.”

The girl hesitated then read,
I think the “seven wonders” are:
1. To see
2. To hear
3. To touch
4. To taste
5. To feel
6. To laugh
7. To love
The room was so quiet you could have heard a pin drop.
